I-66 Toll Hours — When Is I-66 Tolled?
Inside the Beltway, the toll depends entirely on which way you're going and what time it is.

Outside those two windows, I-66 Inside the Beltway costs nothing. There's no overnight toll, no midday toll, and no Saturday toll. Drive eastbound at 10 AM or westbound at 2 PM and you pay zero.
The part that catches people: during those hours every lane is tolled. There is no free lane running alongside the paid one. If you don't want to pay, you take a different road — Route 50 or Route 29.
When Does I-66 West Start Tolling?
3:00 PM, weekdays. It runs until 7:00 PM. The most expensive stretch is usually 5:00–6:00 PM, when the price often lands several times higher than it does at 3:15 PM or 6:45 PM. Leaving twenty minutes earlier or later routinely changes the toll more than the route does.
When Does I-66 East Start Tolling?
5:30 AM, weekdays, running until 9:30 AM. The peak-of-peak is roughly 7:30–8:30 AM. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are typically the most expensive of the week; Mondays and Fridays are usually cheaper.
Does I-66 Have Tolls on Weekends?
No. Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays are free in both directions, at every hour. The tolling system only runs on weekdays during the peak windows above.
What If I Drive Through Without an E-ZPass?
I-66 Inside the Beltway is all-electronic — there are no toll booths. Driving the tolled hours without a transponder means the toll gets billed to the registered owner, with fees on top. HOV-2+ drivers ride free during peak hours if the E-ZPass Flex is switched to HOV mode before entering.
Hours Are Fixed. The Price Isn't.
The windows never move, but the amount changes every 15 minutes based on traffic — from under a dollar to over forty. Two drivers entering the same ramp twenty minutes apart can pay wildly different tolls, and the sign only tells you today's number, with nothing to compare it against.
