Where you get on and off decides the fare as much as the time does. Pick both and see what the trip usually costs.

Typical means what this segment has actually cost at that time on that weekday, from prices TollCast has logged every few minutes since late 2018. The real price on the day moves with traffic.

Why There's No Official Number

VDOT posts the current price on signs before each entrance, and that's the whole story you get: one number, no context, decided fifteen minutes at a time. There's no published table of what a trip costs, because the answer changes continuously. The full run from the Beltway into Washington commonly lands near $35 at the 8:30 AM peak; the same morning, getting on at Glebe Road is closer to $16, and at 6:00 AM either trip is a few dollars.

Distance matters, but not evenly. The fare comes from your entry and exit pair, so the last few miles into DC carry most of the cost. Getting on one interchange further east can cut the toll by more than half.

When You Pay Nothing

I-66 Inside the Beltway is only tolled on weekdays — eastbound 5:30 to 9:30 AM, westbound 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Outside those windows, and all day on weekends and federal holidays, the road is free. HOV-2+ with an E-ZPass Flex switched to HOV mode rides free during the tolled hours. Full detail: I-66 toll hours.

The Number You Actually Want

Knowing a trip typically costs $12 doesn't tell you whether today's $12 is a bargain or a gouge. TollCast scores the live price against everything it has recorded for that exact segment, time and weekday, so the sign's number arrives with a verdict attached — and tells you whether waiting ten minutes is likely to help. It's the same data as this page, except it's watching the road while you drive.
