Privacy Policy

TollCast has no ads, no advertising SDKs, no cross-site trackers, and no third-party data sharing for marketing. The website counts visits using privacy-preserving analytics that do not follow you across other sites. Nothing collected here is sold, rented, or used to build a profile of you. There is no account to create and no email address to hand over.
What TollCast collects
Your commute addresses and value of time (Worth It?)
The Worth It? feature needs to know where you drive. If you set it up, you enter a starting address and a destination address, plus what an hour of your time is worth to you.
- These are stored on your device, not in an account.
- Each time a verdict is calculated, they are sent to the TollCast server over an encrypted connection so it can request drive times for both routes. The server uses them for that request and does not store them — there is no database of user addresses.
- To get drive times, the server passes the addresses to the Google Routes API. Google's handling of that request is governed by its own privacy policy.
- Setting up Worth It? is optional. If you skip it, no addresses are collected at all.
- You can erase them any time in Settings → Worth It? Verdict, or by deleting the app.
Your saved route
The interchanges you pick as your usual entry and exit (for example, Vienna → Ballston) are stored on your device and sent with toll requests so the price matches your actual trip. These are highway interchanges, not addresses.
An anonymous device identifier
TollCast generates a random ID on first launch to count how many devices use the app and to route push notifications. It is not your Apple ID, not your phone number, not your advertising identifier, and it is not linked to your name or email. Deleting the app ends it.
Push notification token and alert settings
If you turn on alerts, Apple's push service issues a token that is stored on the TollCast server alongside your thresholds (for example, "notify me under $6") and your subscription status, so the right alerts reach the right devices. Turning alerts off removes it.
Location — only if you turn it on
Location is used only for optional driving features, only while you are using the app, and only after you grant permission. It is processed on your device and is not sent to the TollCast server or to anyone else. The app works fully without it.
Subscription status
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. TollCast receives whether a subscription is active — never your payment details, card number, or billing address. Apple's App Store notifications tell the server when a subscription starts, renews, or lapses.
Basic web analytics
tollcast.com sets a first-party cookie holding a random ID so visits can be counted as people rather than raw hits. When you arrive, the site also records the page you came from (for example, a Reddit or Facebook link) and the country your request came from, so it is possible to tell which of those places people find TollCast through. That is recorded in aggregate, is not tied to your name or email, and is never used to follow you to any other site.
The site additionally uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for page-view counts. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint your device or browser, and collects no data that identifies you personally. No advertising networks are involved anywhere on tollcast.com.
What TollCast never collects
- Your name, email address, or phone number
- Your payment or card details
- Continuous or background location, or any location history
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, or microphone
- Your advertising identifier (IDFA)

TollCast does not sell personal information, and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are used under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act and the California Consumer Privacy Act.
How long things are kept
Commute addresses are not retained by the server at all. Push tokens and alert settings last until you turn alerts off or delete the app. Toll price history — which is about roads, not people — is kept indefinitely, because the whole app depends on it.
Your choices
- Delete your addresses: Settings → Worth It? Verdict, clear the fields and save.
- Stop notifications: Settings → Notifications, or iOS Settings → TollCast.
- Delete everything: Delete the app. The device identifier, your addresses, and your saved route go with it, and the push token is retired.
- Ask a question or request deletion of anything server-side: email the address below and it gets handled by a person.
Children
TollCast is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top changes and the app notes it. Material changes will be announced in the app.
